ZAMBOANGA
CITY (March 16, 2018) - The Police Regional Office 9 (PRO9) headed by
PCSUPT Billy B Beltran, Regional Director received Twenty Eight (28) assorted firearms
and two (2) explosives which were surrendered by local and village officials of
Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay to the local PNP at about 10:00 AM Thursday (March
15), official said.

PCInsp Helen L Galvez disclosed that Eighteen (18) units 12 Gauge Shotgun; Five
(5) units Caliber 45 pistol; One (1) unit Caliber 22 pistol; One (1) unit
Sumpak (Homemade); One (1) unit Rifle Grenade; and One (1) unit Hand Grenade
including three (3) units of Garand Rifles were among the list of firearms that
were turned over by the local officials of Malangas. An inventory of those
loose firearms and explosives was then conducted and properly turned over to Provincial
Logistics Branch of Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office while the three
(3) units of Garand Rifle were returned back to the 44th Infantry Battalion,
Phil. Army for proper disposition.

Billy B Beltran Regional Director said that some of the participants during the
mass turned over of loose firearm were informed of the laws in possessing
firearms through the Regional Civil Security Unit 9. Likewise, he urged the
public to surrender their unlicensed and unregistered firearms to the authority
either PNP or AFP to ensure the peace and tranquility of the community.
He
further pointed out that the laudable action of the local officials of Malangas
may serve as model for other government officials and residents in the entire
Zamboanga Peninsula.
