ZAMBOANGA CITY, May 15 (PNA) – Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said she expects Archbishop Romulo dela Cruz to be able to unite the Christians, Muslim and Lumads and “be able to guide us build better families and communities spiritually.”

Salazar’s statement came after Papal Nuncio Giuseppe Pinto, the Apostolic Nunciature to the Philippines, presided Wednesday the installation of Dela Cruz in a ceremony held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Pope Francis named Dela Cruz, 66, as this city’s archbishop last March 15.

Salazar said Dela Cruz has the experience and capability in uniting people from all walks of life having served four different places as bishop.

“The shepherd of the Catholic Church is to unite the Christians, Muslims, and Lumads of Zamboanga City. Most important is to guide us to build better families and communities spiritually, so that we will be able to build back better homes, and a better Zamboanga,” Salazar said of Dela Cruz.

Salazar is also happy to note that Dela Cruz could be the conduit of assistance through the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) should the city government ask help from the Papal Nuncio. (PNA)
