ZAMBOANGA CITY, May
16 (PNA) -– Thirty medical professionals have attended a two-day Philippine
Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (PIDSR) annual updates and
scientific conference 2014 conducted by the Department of Health (DOH) in this
city.
DOH Regional
Epidemiology Surveillance Unit head Dr. Norvie Jalani said Friday the two-day
event was aimed to reinforce and keep the disease surveillance network abreast
of “what is happening around the world and the community.”
“The activity was
also aimed to improve health security,” Jalani said the of the two-day
scientific conference held from Wednesday until Thursday.
She said the
participants include physicians, nurses and personnel from the epidemiology
surveillance units from the different parts of the region.
She said that the
complementary surveillance system, which is called the event-based surveillance
system and response was also discussed during the two-day event.
She said that a
refresher course was also given on the proper use protective personal
equipments and proper swab collection for the testing of MERS Cov.
DOH Bureau of
Epidemiology Surveillance Officer Julius Velasquez was the resource speaker
