PAGADIAN CITY,
Zamboanga del Sur, May 26 (PNA) -- Eight local government units (LGUs) and the
different national government agencies (NGAs) in nearby Zamboanga del Norte
province have employed 115 fresh graduates through the Government Internship
Program (GIP) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
DOLE-Zamboanga del
Norte Labor and Employment Officer Henry Tianero said those employed will work
for a period of six months and each will receive a daily salary of P210, which
is 75 percent of the region’s minimum wage.
Tianero said that 82
of the 115 GIP beneficiaries will work in eight LGUs and this are as follows:
Dapitan City, 20; La Libertad, 12; Sergio Osmeña, 12; Sibutad, 11; Mutia, nine;
Piñan, seven; Rizal, six; and Polanco, five.
The remaining 33
beneficiaries were assigned in the following government agencies: First
District Congressional Office, 13; Department of Social Welfare and Development,
four; Jose Rizal Memorial Hospital, four; Jose Rizal Memorial State
University-Main Campus, three; Department of Trade and Industry, two;
Department of
Environment and Natural Resources, two; Department of Education, two;
Philippine Information Agency, two; and, Technical Education and Skills
Development Authority, one.
As the implementer of
the program, Tianero said the DOLE through its regional office provides and
assigns intern-beneficiaries to GIP partners/employers to perform the tasks and
duties as prescribed under Administrative Order No. 39-A, series of 2014.
Tianero said GIP
partners/employers shall ensure that the intern will not be exposed to any
hazardous undertaking as provided for under the Anti-Child Labor Law and other
pertinent laws.
He said they are
required to submit to the DOLE regional office the time records at least two
days before the 15th and 30th of the month for the processing of payment of the
interns’ allowance.
He said the employers
shall also submit a special report to the DOLE regional office in case of
termination of the intern prior to the completion of the six-month internship
agreement, specifically stating the reasons for such termination duly signed by
the intern’s immediate supervisor.
He said the GIP
likewise provides the beneficiaries opportunities to show their talents and
skills while undergoing internship to fully prepare them for their future
employment.
He said the
implementation of GIP is in line with the provisions of Executive Order No.
139, series of 1993, providing opportunities to young workers to serve the
general public in government agencies, projects and programs at the national
