PAGADIAN CITY,
Zamboanga del Sur, May 8 (PNA) -– The Department of Health (DOH) is
constructing a P270 million medical center in nearby Zamboanga Sibugay
province.
DOH Regional Director
Dr. Nimfa Torrizo and Zamboanga Sibugay Gov. Wilter Palma led the ground
breaking Thursday for the construction of the medical center.

Most Rev. Bishop
Julius S. Tonel of Ipil Diocese officiated the blessing during the laying of
time capsule.
Zamboanga Sibugay
Information Officer Roel Paloma said the health facility known as the Zamboanga
Sibugay Medical Center will be constructed on a 57,000 square meter lot in
Barangay Tenan in Ipil, the province’ capital.

Paloma said that the
DOH allocated P240 million of the P270 million funds for the construction of
the medical center while the provincial government allotted a P30 million
counterpart fund.
The medical center is
a 100-bed capacity will cater to the health needs of the province’ 16
municipalities and that of nearby areas.
Zamboanga Sibugay has
a population of 584,685 as of the 201 census.
It is ranked 29th among
the provinces of the Philippines in terms of both population and population
density. The annual population growth rate is 16.09 percent.
Zamboanga Sibugay,
which is the 79th province in the country, was created in 2001 when the third
district of Zamboanga del Sur was carved out of that province. (PNA)
