Regional Governor Mujv Hataman |
COTABATO CITY, May 14
(PNA) -- Regional Governor Mujv Hataman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim
Mindanao (ARMM) on Wednesday urged his fellow Moros to aspire for more
education and knowledge in order to improve their capacity to lead, especially
in area of governance in preparation for the establishment of new political
entity in southern Philippines.
Moro people will be
at the helm of the envisioned Bangsamoro political entity and leadership is one
of the challenges that will confront them, according to Hataman.
“We must work to gain
knowledge and the appropriate skills to effectively govern,” he said.
The ARMM governor,
who heads over a population of close to 4 million in five provinces and two
cities, was one of this year’s recipients of the Eisenhower Fellowships’
Multi-Nation Program (MNP), a one-and-a-half-month leadership program that
brings together 25 accomplished professionals from around the world, the
statement from the ARMM Bureau of Public Information (BPI) said.
As MNP fellow,
Hataman is visiting eight to 10 cities in the United States with 50 to 60
individual appointments.
The 2014 MNP started
in March and will culminate on Friday, May 16.
"While on
fellowship, Hataman had met with elected and public leaders regarding good
governance practices, internal security, climate change adaptation, conflict
resolution, poverty reduction, and attracting international business
investments,” the BPI said.
Hataman is hoping the
tailor-made leadership program would allow him to better address development
issues faced by people in the ARMM.
A former party-list
representative, Hataman has been repeatedly praised by President Benigno Aquino
III for his remarkable performance as chief of the ARMM since his appointment
as its caretaker until he was elected to a three-year term.
In one of his
speeches, Aquino cited Hataman for showing “what can be done through good
leadership.
The Eisenhower
Fellowships (EF) was established in 1953 by a group of American businessmen to
celebrate the first birthday of President Dwight D. Eisenhower in the White
House and to honor his contribution to bettering the world.
It is presently
chaired by former US Secretary of States and retired four-star general, Colin
Powell.
The program
identifies, empowers and links outstanding leaders from around the world,
helping them to achieve consequential outcomes across sectors and borders.
