Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said the operation was conducted by the combined elements of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-6 and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-IX to apprehend personalities involved in the illegal drug trade that destroys the lives of hapless and innocent civilians in Barangay Bintawlan (Bintawlan Island), South Ubian.
“Sensing the presence of the government forces, the target personalities open fired which forced our troops to retaliate,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.
The exchange of fires resulted in the instantaneous death of one illegal-drug personality and the recovery of one M16 rifle, one M14 rifle, one cal. 45 pistol, and assorted drug paraphernalia.
Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, Commander of the Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi commended the operating troops for the successful operation.
“This is attributable to the strengthened collaboration among the intelligence, military, and other law enforcement agencies. This is a testament that superb collaboration and cooperation results in high performance of the government’s security forces,” said Brig. Gen. Rojas.
“We also recognize the support from the local government and the people
in our fight against terrorism and lawlessness in our area of operation,” Brig.
