PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (April 12, 2018) - Four fighters of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) surrendered to the Mechanized troops in Ampatuan municipality, Maguindanao on Tuesday, Military Officia said.

Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) Information Officer Capt. Jo-Ann D. Petinglay disclosed that the four were also presented to Major General Arnel Delavega, commander of the Joint Task Force Zampelan and to Governor Ismael “Toto” Mangudadatu, the Maguindanao Governor in a simple activity at the 1st Mech Battalion headquarters in Ampatuan Wednesday morning (April 11).

The surrenderers also turned over their crew serve and high powered firearms that include a rocket propelled grenade, an M16 rifle, a Squad Automatic Weapon and a Garrand riflem, Xapt. Petinglay said.

“The surrenderers felt that it is time for them to return to the fold of law after seeing that the President is serious about his campaign to attain peace in Mindanao,” said MGen Arnel Delavega.

“We encourage other members of the BIFF to also surrender as this is a rare chance,” he added. “I am positive that the others will also soon follow.”

The identities of the surrenderers are withheld for their security.

“I am personally elated by this turn of events. No BIFF has ever surrendered prior to this recent accomplishment,” said Lieutenant General Carlito G. Galvez, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command.

“I would like to congratulate our mechanized troops and all others from JTF Central for this accomplishment. I am well aware of your efforts and your sacrifices. You are now rewarded by reaping another breakthrough in the history of operations against the BIFF because of this surrender.”

“Once again, i congratulate you all.”
