– Naval Forces Western Mindanao celebrated its 22nd Founding Anniversary on
October 09, 2018 with a theme, “22 Years of Continuous Commitment towards Peace
and Development for Western Mindanao”. It was graced by Vice Commander,
Philippine Navy, Rear Adm. Rommel Jude G Ong AFP representing the Flag Officer
in Command, Philippine Navy, Vice Admiral Robert A Empedrad AFP as the Guest of
Honor and Speaker.
The
highlight of the event was the awarding of the outstanding officers, enlisted
personnel, civilian employees, OpCon Units, Partner Agencies and Stakeholders
that contributed to the accomplishment of the Command’s mission.
The
awardees who received the Plaque de Merito were:
Officer of the year- Lcdr Julius D Tuttoh PN
Enlisted of the year- Em2 Erwin B Zambales PN
Civilian employee of the year- Mr Carlos T Berbano CE
Battalion of the year- Marine Battalion Landing Team-1
Patrol ship of the year- BRP General Mariano Alvarez

Transport ship of the year- BRP Waray (LC288)
Patrol craft of the year- BRP Filipino Flojo (PC386)
Boat attack of the year- BA 486
On
his message, the Vice Commander, Philippine Navy commended the recent
accomplishments of NavForWem for the past years and happy to note that once
again, NavForWem has levelled up the accomplishment of your mission. He also added
that the key stakeholders appreciate the big role NFWM played in the
rehabilitation of Marawi City, ensuring that the Government’s projects are
pushed through and implemented. Likewise, Rear Adm. Ong on behalf of the whole
men and women of PN lauded the NFWM of its sustained advocacy as instruments of
security and peace in the region as well as in extending far-reaching arms in
national development.
The
Commander, Naval Forces Western Mindanao Rear Adm. Rene V Medina AFP expressed
his sincerest gratitude to all the people, who, in one way or another, became
NFWM's source of inspiration and strength to fulfill what it is mandated to
accomplish-operational commander, back then from Gen. Galvez and now LtGen.
Dela Vega, fellow servicemen from the Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force,
Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, associates from Local
Government Units, and Non-Government Organizations, friends from Media, and of
course the people of Western Mindanao. "So please accept our warmest
sincere appreciation as we further solicit your support to continue to curb all
lawless elements and bring security, development, and progress in Western
Mindanao", he added.
On
its 22nd year, NFWM continuous its commitment to serve our people for a
peaceful, progressive and developed Western Mindanao.
