PAGADIAN CITY (Aug. 2, 2019) -
Hundreds of PWD’s or persons with disability gather at the Executive Hall,
Provincial Capitol Grounds on Thursday, August 1 in celebration of the 41st
NDPR Week and White Cane Safety Day.
Provincial
Information Officer Jesrel Jess Himang disclosed that the event was organized
by the social welfare department in cooperation with various agencies to
recognize differently-abled individuals of the province and their significant
contribution to the community.
Present
during the celebration were PWD groups from the different municipalities of
Zamboanga del Sur who gladly shared their talents and skills in the whole day
activity, Himang said.
Himang
added that Board Member Baldomero “Baleleng” Ferndandez gave his welcome
address on the said event. Being the chairman of the Health and Social Services
Committee at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, he pledged support for the PWD
sector by creating legislations that will cater the needs and uplift the status
of PWD’s in the province.
Himang
identified ther three outstanding PWD’s were awarded during the celebration as Joel
Bernardo, mobility-impaired, was given recognition for being a responsible
parent. He was able to finish her wife as cum laude.
Mr.
and Mrs. Ariston Climaco were also recognized. Despite being blind and lame
respectively, they were able to raise successful children who are now licensed
teacher and soldier.
Meanwhile,
athlete Junril Jumalon was the third awardee in the field of sports. He was a
medalist of the National Paralympic Games in 2018 and 2019 on long jump and
badminton.
Special
Awards were also given to Emelita Masong in accountancy and Lloyd Suaner as a
TESDA Top Performer.
Non-government
organizations like the Eagles Club and JCI Heights were also recognized for
their continuous support for the PWD groups.
Jeesrel
Himang, the Provincial Information Officer, represented Gov. Victor Yu during
the event. He echoed the message of support from Gov. Yu who has repeatedly
emphasized his governance as open and participatory. Himang said that in the
administration of Gov. Yu, no sector will be left behind.
Miriam
Llanos, SWO V – Focal Person expressed her gratitude to those who extended
their efforts for the welfare of differently-abled individuals in their area of
responsibility.
