PAGADIAN CITY – The exhibition
of tricycle drivers by running their vehicle using only two wheels with sidecar up
was the center of attraction during the successful celebration of the 5th year Tricycle Operators and Drivers Day
(TOD Day) here in Pagadian City.
More or less 2,500 tricycle operators and drivers were converge at the City Plaza Luz on Thursday, January 10 to celebrate the 5th TOD day.

This kind of exhibition is being seen only in Pagadian
City as their added attraction to support the local tourists destination
project of the city government. To mark this
year’s celebration, a motorcade will be conducted after a short program at Plaza Luz stage followed by a
raffle draw, parlor and bingo games by SMART communications company, a local
live band performance, a modeling presentation of local beauties and a
fellowship party with their families.

Tricycle is a mode of
transportation with unique design intended for the terrain of the city.
“Our tricycle drivers
are considered tourism front-liners. They helped promote our tourism industry
by interacting with foreign and domestic guests once they have these visitors
as their passengers,” City Councilor Arnold “Glavys” Gavenia told Mindanao

Gavenia, the Chairman
of the Committee on Transportations and Communications in the City Council and at
the same time chairperson of Motorized Tricycle Franchising and Regulatory Board
(MTFRB) said the celebration is in accordance with city ordinance No. 2k8-267
dated January 8, 2007, “an ordinance declaring January 8 every year as Tricycle
Operators and Drivers day”.
This year’s celebration was moved to January 10 due to some activities during the Christmas Celebration started on December 8, 2012 to end during the celebration also of the Pasalamat Festival on January 20, 2013 of which the city councilor was designated as chairman of the committee. “The committee is very busy doing preparations for the celebration, Gavenia explained.
“The city government had recognized the significant contributions of tricycle operators and drivers to the economy. With this one day celebration, we will let them feel that they are important people in our society,” Gavenia disclosed.
