PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (September 4, 2013) – The untimely explosion of one of the two Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was behind the death of the unidentified person believed to be a suspected bomber Tuesday at 7:30 in the evening on September 3 along the national highway at Barangay Tapodoc, Labangan town in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.

FRONTLINE that the man’s dead body was recovered headless beside the rice field
by the maintenance crew of the Underground Technology Incorporated at about
1:30 dawn of September 4. The body was thrown-away some 15 meters from the bomb
explosion.

Police initial investigation
disclosed, the IED had untimely exploded while planted by the suspect due to
the darkness in the area caused by 4 hours routine brownout started at 6:00
o’clock pm until 10:00 o’clock in the evening. The dead body sustained multiple
wounds whose arm and head was blasted and was wearing black shirt and pants
color black and green combination.
“We are surprised sir
by the big explosion occurred some 30 meters west from our detachment,” the
Soldier on duty located at the junction going to the cities of Cotabato and Iligan
also said.

Earlier, police
operatives who responded to the crime scene right after the explosion. They immediately
closed the flow of traffic for motorists from the west and east bound part from
Labangan Bridge to the Labangan Integrated Bus Terminal after the recovery of
some IED materials with unknown mm of mortal shell near the explosion area and
a back pack containing secondary unexploded 60mm mortal shell with cellular
phone used as triggering device.
The Explosive Ordnance
Disposal Team successfully disrupted the IED while the Scene of the Crime
Operatives initial investigation disclosed found no person injured during the
first explosion.
“We do not know that
there is a casualty during the explosion until the maintenance crew from the
Underground Technology Incorporated reported to them that they were able to
recovered a dead body near the area while doing the repair of their
communication cable line that was damaged during the explosion and that also
fronted them to go back again to the crime scene for verification,” P/SInp
Humpa explained.
As of press time, the
police investigation has yet to determine his identity and which group does the
suspect belong. The dead body was brought to Gamalinda Funeral Home for proper
disposition.
Military sources also
said that most failure operation or incidents similar to this is believed not
work of an expert but was done by the members of a terrorist group who are in
test mission.
