“28 high and low-powered firearms were handed over by the chairperson of the 26 barangays of Wao to Col. Jovencio Gonzales, Deputy Commander of 602nd Infantry Brigade,” said Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Commander of Western Mindanao Command.
Handed over were 21 12-gauge shotguns, four cal. 38mm revolvers, one cal. 38mm pistol, one 9mm Uzi, and cal. 22 revolver.
The ceremonial turnover of firearms held at the Barangay Extention Covered Court, Wao was witnessed by Wao Mayor Elvino Balicao, Jr., and other local officials.
“Said endeavor is through the continuous collaboration of the 34th Infantry Battalion, Wao Municipal Police Station, and the barangay officials,” said Brig. Gen. Roberto Capulong, Commander of 602Bde.
Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, Commander of JTF Central commended the troops and expressed his appreciation to the local leaders for their genuine gesture of support to the campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms in central and south Mindanao.
Since January 2021, Joint Task Force Central recovered a total of 62 loose firearms in its area of operation.
“We are working doubly to clear the communities from loose firearms, disarm the armed groups, end terrorism, and sustain the peace in our area of operation,” said Lt. Gen. Vinluan, Jr.
