ZAMBOANGA CITY (January 4, 2017)-
A notorious follower of Abu Sayyaf top leader Furudji Indama was killed in
the intensified operations launched by the military in Basilan early this
morning, military official said.
Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) Spokesperson Maj. Filemon I. Tan Jr
disclosed that the composite forces of the 64th Infantry Battalion, Civilian Active Auxiliary under the 4th
Special Forces Battalion, and members of the Civilian Volunteer Organization in
Sumisip conducted focused military operations against the group of Abu Sayyaf member
Garabat in Barangay Sapah Bulak, Sumisip, Basilan early this
morning.
Tan also said that the said armed confrontation led to the death of Garabat
and the recovery of an R4 assault rifle.
The Abu Sayyaf members withdrew towards the direction of Sitio
Pandekepan through Sitio Gantalan, Barangay Sapah Bulak, Basilan.
Troops under the Joint Task Force Basilan proceeded to the encounter to provide
follow-on and augmentation forces. All other troops were alerted and continue
to conduct full inspection to all vehicles going to and from the vicinity, Tan
added.
Pursuit operations are ongoing as of this press time.
