Homemade bomb exploded along the side walk in front of
Mhlullier in Mercado Street corner Quezon Avenue, Iligan City at 10:00 AM this
morning, January 21, 2013.
Initial report from Jun Enriquez of Civil Society
Organization-Forum for Peace (CSO-FP) Iligan said, the glass door of the
pawnshop was damaged including the two vehicles, one owned by Philippine Drugs
Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent Jun Cabahug. Accordingly, Jun Cabahug was
believed to be the target of the unknown suspect.
In a report reaching to the headquarters of the 1st Infantry
(Tabak) Division from Col Ricardo Jalad the Commanding officer of 2nd
Mechanized Brigade based in Iligan City said that after the explosion the
troops from the 41st Mechanized Infantry Company and the K9 unit under the
command of the Brigade were dispatched immediately to augment the police
operatives.
Mayor Lawrence Cruz urges more vigilance against the
lawless elements that will strike anytime in spite of the strengthened security
in Iligan City.
The Mayor also requested investigators to identify the
attackers and determine their motives.
The police authorities in their initial investigation said the improvised explosive device was wrapped in cloth and attached to a parked bicycle.
Police also said that personal grudge was considered as the possible motive of the incident.
The 9 victims were brought to Iligan City Hospital identified
as:

old
2. Raul Padilla, 48 years old
3. Roel Arsero, 33 years old
4. Ryan Disomba Mohammad, 18
years old
5. Jemark Acilo, 27 years old
6. Rowena Rooda, 46 years old
7. Rocayma Maran, 28 years old
8. Alqueza Socoro, 70 years
old and
9. Erwin Bensal, 35 years old
This is the first explosion incident happened in Iligan
City for this year 2013. It was recalled that on May 5, 2012 two persons were
killed and 36 others were wounded in a grenade attack incident perpetrated by
the still unidentified person.
