Homemade bomb exploded along the side walk in front of Mhlullier in Mercado Street corner Quezon Avenue, Iligan City at 10:00 AM this morning, January 21, 2013.

Initial report from Jun Enriquez of Civil Society Organization-Forum for Peace (CSO-FP) Iligan said, the glass door of the pawnshop was damaged including the two vehicles, one owned by Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent Jun Cabahug. Accordingly, Jun Cabahug was believed to be the target of the unknown suspect.

In a report reaching to the headquarters of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division from Col Ricardo Jalad the Commanding officer of 2nd Mechanized Brigade based in Iligan City said that after the explosion the troops from the 41st Mechanized Infantry Company and the K9 unit under the command of the Brigade were dispatched immediately to augment the police operatives.

Mayor Lawrence Cruz urges more vigilance against the lawless elements that will strike anytime in spite of the strengthened security in Iligan City.

The Mayor also requested investigators to identify the attackers and determine their motives.

The police authorities in their initial investigation said the improvised explosive device was wrapped in cloth and attached to a parked bicycle.

Police also said that personal grudge was considered as the possible motive of the incident.

The 9 victims were brought to Iligan City Hospital identified as:
