DENR GOT 98% NGP ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR 2012

PAGADIAN CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Region IX in Zamboanga Peninsula together with their partners in the implementation of the National Greening Program (NGP) deserve an accolade for achieving the 98.74% accomplishment in terms of plantation development and 100.19% for seedling production/procurement for Calendar Year 2012.

As per record of accomplishment furnished by the Regional NGP Focal Person Forester Melvin F. Sarcauga to the Regional Public Affairs Office (RPAO), a total of 3,143,294 high quality planting materials (seedlings) were outplanted to 6,078.90 hectares of denuded forest lands, mangrove and protected areas, ancestral domains, civil and military reservations, urban areas under the greening plan of the local government units (LGUs), inactive and abandoned mine sites and other suitable lands.
In his message during the year-end assessment of Performance Targets and Management Conference held recently at the Chandler’s Suites in Pagadian City, RED Adorable congratulated his four (4) PENROs, 10 CENROs and all DENR-IX officials and employees who have worked hard under the National Convergence Initiative (NCI)  composed of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of Agriculture (DA), and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in collaboration with all government agencies,  Local Government Units (LGUs), POs, Non-Governmental Organizations  (NGOs) and in partnership with the private sector and civil society.

Seedlings procured through public bidding process or produced by legitimate agencies and  People’s Organizations which were planted in watershed and protected areas include: indigenous species such as dao, molave, red & white lauan, nato, lumbayao, antipolo and the like; rubber and fruit trees (rambutan, durian, mango, jackfruit, chinese pomelo, etc.) were planted in upland and selected areas; bacauan in coastal areas; while ayanguile, bitaog, talisay, etc. and other  ornamental plants (golden shower, ilang-ilang, fire tree, banaba, african tulip,  etc.) were used for  urban greening.

Various teams of foresters were organized early this month to conduct cross validation of physical accomplishments for CY 2012 in NGP areas, region wide (With reports from H.A. Ascura/DENR-IX, PR).
