PAGADIAN CITY – Early morning today at about 8:45, August 15,
2012, one killed and four others were wounded and 2 in critical condition from
the government troops while undetermined numbers of casualties from the ASG in another
encounter in the boundary of Brgy. Baiwas and Brgy. Pamatsaken in Sumisip,
Basilan province.
The alert level status of the Armed Forces of the Philippines
(AFP) is on triple red alert following the series of encounter between the government
troops and the ABU SAYAF Group (ASG) in Basilan province. This was confirmed to
the media by Col. Romy Yugyug, Commanding Officer of Task Force Basilan.
In an initial reports reaching in the headquarters of the Army’s
First Infantry (Tabak) Division said while the government operating troops of
the 20th Special Forces Company of 4th Special Forces
Battalion conducting a clearing operations and also purposely to supply the
Jungle Base troops in Brgy. Baiwas encountered more or less 35 heavily armed
members of ASG.
The ASG believed under Commander Juahaibel Alansirul also known
as ABU KIK and Isnilon Hapilon were able to flee towards the huge of
rubber plantation area bringing with them some dead bodies and wounded
comrades after the encounter that lasted for about 30 minutes.
At about 10:50 am, casualties were picked up by 2 UH1H hells at
Mangal Patrol Base and brought to Camp Navarro Station Hospital (CNGH).
Unfortunately one of the critical wounded died while being operated by the
attending physicians.
The identities of the casualties from the government troops were
not yet identified by the officials.
More government troops now send to Basilan province to augment
the ongoing pursuit operations against the Moro bandits, the Army’s First
Division Chief MGen. Ricardo Rainier Cruz III said.
Sumisip has been the site of at least 4 fatal encounters between
the Army and the ASG in three months time. The town's huge rubber plantations
have been constantly harassed by Abu Sayyaf rebels, who want a share in the
revenues of these plantations, according to Army officers. (JONG CADION)
