PAGADIAN CITY,
Zamboanga del Sur, Jan. 13 (PNA) -– All is set for the holding Wednesday of the
Regatta 2015, which is part of the Pasalamat Festival 2015, in this city.
The highlights of the
festival is the feast day of Señor Sto. Niño, the patron saint of this city, on
January 18.
Initially, the
Pasalamat Festival 2015 Steering Committee announced that more than 60 vintas with
beautiful sail are expected to participate in the Regatta.
Some of the
participants are from the nearby provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga
del Norte.
City Councilor Cesar
Dacal Jr., steering committee chairman, said they decided to move the holding
of the Regatta to an earlier date for security reasons.
The Regatta was
earlier scheduled to be held from January 17-18.
Dacal said they
changed the schedule of the Regatta to an earlier date to enable policemen to
focus security efforts to a particular activity.
Dacal said January 17
is reserved for the fluvial parade at 6:30 a.m. around Yllana Bay. It will be
followed by the procession of Sto. Niño from the wharf to the Cathedral.
January 18 is the
culmination of the festival, which is the feast day of Sto. Niño, the patron
saint of this city.
Senior Supt. Sofronio
Ecaldre, provincial police director, said they augmented the policemen tasked
to provide security during the festival here.
The augmentation
force came from the police offices of this province’ 26 municipalities. (PNA)
