PAGADIAN
CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Sept. 22 (PNA) -- Flashflood spawned by continuous
downpour on Monday afternoon has displaced 334 families whose houses were
inundated in Barangay Tiguma, this city.
Haron
Damada, city disaster risk reduction and management office (CDRRMO) chief, told
the Philippines News Agency the flash flood occurred when Tiguma River swelled
and overflowed.
Damada
noted the Tiguma River overflowed since the waterway was clogged with debris
that prevented the free flow of the water.
Damada
said two of the 334 inundated houses were swept away while seven others were
heavily damaged.
He said
the flashflood destroyed at least PHP150,000 worth of properties as most if not
all of the inundated houses were made of light materials.
He said
the flashflood also affected some motorcycle display centers along the road of
Barangay Tiguma.
He said
the city government through the CDRRMO has immediately provided relief
assistance to the affected families.
Meanwhile,
Damada said the personnel of the city engineer’s office had been tasked to
clear the Tiguma River of debris that clogged the waterway. (PNA)
