ZAMBOANGA CITY - Officials of the Table Tennis Association of the
Philippines (TATAP) recently awarded the winners of the table tennis tourney
held at the WMSU gymnasium with Cebu-based Huaching Team capturing the
Championship Event with the prize of P25-Thousand.

TATAP Regional President Wagean Sangkula Anni in an
interview said the event was part of the month-long celebration of the
Zamboanga Hermosa festival of the Nuestra Seniora del Pilar feast in the city.
The “7th feast Mayor Lobregat Cup” kicked
off last Oct. 12 on the feast day of Pilar and lasted until Oct. 13, According
to Anni.
First runner-up team went to the Metro Manila
Association Table Tennis Association awarded with P15-thousand
while 2nd runner-up was grabbed by Table Tennis Association of
North District.
City mayor Celso Lobregat was the guest of honor and
speaker who initiated the ceremonial opening of the games along with TATAP
officials led by National Chairman Ting Ledesma and other officials.
Actively participated by hundreds of players coming
from all over the country representing various tennis teams, sports
organizations and teams from schools and associations to include METTA from
Metro Manila; Huaching from Cebu; Sulu Provincial Team; TATAND from Caloocan,
Manila, Lamitan, Basilan; and Zamboanga Sibugay teams.
Teams from Zamboanga City were represented by Ayala
Central School; Claret School of Zamboanga;Ateneo De Zamboanga
University;Tetuan Central school; Mercedes Central School; Caldwell Adventist
Academy; Pilar College; WMSU; Talon-Talon National High School; Southern City
Colleges; MEZATTA; ZCSMST; ZCSPC ; Avalokitesvara; RN review Center.

Anni said that while the events lasted for few days,
TATAP Chair Ting Ledesma along with officials and organizers also conducted
free Umpire training seminar spearheaded by experts from the
International Umpire Degree; The free table tennis clinic was also offered to
interested tennisters by national players of the Metropolitan Table Tennis
Association held at WMSU gym.
Anni, during the games, has dedicated the event to the
city mayor Lobregat, as it would be the last-sponsored cup the mayor could
witness as the latter will be serving his term until May 2013.
He said another cup is in the offing which will be
held anytime and sponsored by many cause-oriented groups to include Sulu
provincial governor Sakur Tan, who is very supportive of the development of
sports in the region, particularly, in the province.
Ledesma, meanwhile, expressed optimism that a great
potential is awaiting the young “tennisters” in the country and vowed to
continue to assist them become better players and future champions of the
sports.
