MANILA, Philippines (Nov.5,
2014) -- November 8, 2014, marks one year since Haiyan (Yolanda), the strongest
typhoon to ever make landfall, tore through the central Philippines killing
6,300 people and leaving millions homeless.
Members of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), remain on the ground working on the long-term recovery across the five affected islands of Leyte, Panay, Cebu, Palawan and Samar.
To commemorate the one-year mark, we’ve come up with various materials for media use. These resources show the resilience of Haiyan survivors and the impact of the RC Movement-wide response:
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC):
- 11 high-resolution images from emergency to recovery, and profiles of five beneficiaries. Photos and captions here: http://1drv.ms/100eFiv
- Haiyan one-year on AV news (high-quality footage) and dope sheet, to be available on Nov. 7 on ICRC’s video newsroom: http://www.icrcvideonewsroom.org/content/index.asp
- Video clips of beneficiaries of livelihood, shelter, and restoration of health facilities, on ICRC’s Youtube channel from Nov. 4-8: http://www.youtube.com/user/icrcfilms
- Key updates and targets, news release, map, infographic, and one-year progress report, to be released at the Movement press conference on one year of Haiyan operation, Nov. 4 (tomorrow) at the Diamond Hotel
