Cotabato
City (July 9, 2018) –
About 6,000 public school teachers have been hired since Governor Mujiv Hataman
of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) took his seat in the
regional government in December 2011.
The ARMM regional
government invested heavily in providing quality education to Bangsamoro children.
In recent years, the ARMM’s Education department (DepEd-ARMM) has made major
improvements in the region’s educational system.
About 1,000 newly
hired teachers in Maguindanao signed their appointment and deployment orders
during an acceptance and mass oath-taking ceremony held here in the first week
of July. New teachers in other provinces will sign the same orders in the
coming months.
Gov. Hataman said the
regional government will support the teachers in delivering high-quality
education. A newly hired teaching personnel holding Salary Grade 11 without
dependents will receive a gross basic salary of P20,179 and will have a net take-home
pay of P20,012. In addition, the annual allowance intended for the purchase of
classroom supplies was raised to P3,500 from P2,500 while the clothing
allowance also increased to P6,000 from P5,000.
To finally solve the
shortage of teachers in public schools, the DepEd-ARMM will be hiring an
additional 3,000 new teachers and will finish constructing 921 classrooms in
the region.
“May mga kwentong
nagsasabi na ang pag-apply daw sa ARMM ay medyo mahirap,” said Norolhaq H.
Usop, one of the newly hired teachers. He was among the walk-in applicants
during the screening process conducted in May. “I feel so blessed kasi hindi na
umabot ng ilang years ang application namin,” he said.
Now that he is
officially a teacher in the region, Usop said he is ready for whatever duties
his work will require. “I will really give my best para maibigay kung ano man
ang kailangan ng ating mga kabataan,” Usop said. (JONG CADION/Bureau of Public
