PAGADIAN CITY (July 5, 2018) - Zamboanga
Sibugay Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Dr. Dante
“Dantoy” A. Oporto was awarded by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)
as its 2018 Outstanding Professional of the Year in the field of Forestry
during its awards night at Manila Hotel last June 21, 2018.
The award is the highest award bestowed
by PRC upon a professional, as recommended by his peers, for having
sufficiently demonstrated professional competence of the highest degree and
conducted himself with integrity in the exercise of his profession,
meaningfully participated in professional organization, significantly
contributed to the advancement of the profession, and significantly contributed
to the effective discharge of the profession’s social responsibility through
meaningful contribution or participation in socio-related activities.
Dr. Oporto’s outstanding, distinguished
and valuable contributions in the field of Forestry and his exemplary services
to the public through his shared research outputs, promoting the ecological importance of a clean
and healthy environment, and his continuous promotion of conservation and
protection of nature has earned him this highest award.
His shared knowledge to the advancement
of the Forestry Profession through his expertise in research and technology
especially to the province of Zamboanga Sibugay through his introduction of
many useful ideas and innovations has earned him commendations from the
leaders of the province.
Dr. Oporto’s competence, excellence and
commendable track record have earned him various awards and recognition such
as the 2010 Distinguished Alumnus award
for outstanding community service given by the University of the Philippines
Los Banos UPLB) campus, Oblation Statuette for Outstanding Public Service Award
of UPLB, a recognition and gold medallion for Distinctive Career Achievement
and significant contribution to Forest Governances as Regional Technical
Director of the Ecosystems Research and Development Services in Region 9, and
Most Outstanding Alumnus Award in 2015 from the Western Mindanao State University.
His relentless dedication as member of the Society of Filipino Foresters, Inc.,
UPLB College of Forestry and Natural Resources Alumni Association, and Western
Mindanao State University Alumni Association are testaments of his outstanding
career.
Aside from being a forester, he is also
a Botanist, Spelunker, Wildlife Photographer and a Biologist. This is truly a
testament to the exceptionally good work leading to become a a true champion of
biodiversity conservation.
