QUEZON CITTY (July 19, 2018) - The Philippine
National Police mourns the loss of another police officer who was killed in
line of duty during an anti-illegal drugs operation in Nueva Ecija on
Monday night.
Police
Officer 1 Mariano Caparas of the General Tinio Municipal Police Station
succumbed to a single gunshot wound in the chest fired by a certain “Abet” who
is the subject of a drug buy-bust operation by police operatives in
Barangay Pias at 9:45 PM.
“Abet”
reportedly fired his handgun upon sensing he was being entrapped by
anti-narcotics police operatives, according to a report reaching PNP Chief,
Director General Oscar D Albayalde from Central Luzon PNP Regional Director,
Chief Superintendent Amador Corpuz.
Corpuz
said, Abet was subsequently gunned down when other members of the arresting
team returned fire.
“The
death of PO1 Caparas does not diminish our keen resolve to accomplish the
mission against illegal drugs and crime, rather, his heroism inspires us
continue the fight with deeper commitment and dedication,” The Chief PNP said.
Albayalde
assured the surviving kin of Caparas of all PNP benefits entitled to legal
dependents of police personnel killed in line of duty.
As of
February 2018, there had been 87 PNP personnel who died while performing
anti-illegal drugs operation. (PNP-PIO)
